Abstract:

Vaccine safety is of critical importance. Most childhood vaccinations may result in mild adverse events, including local reactions such as redness and swelling at the injection site. Rare and more serious reactions, such as allergic reactions, also can occur. This chapter deals with clinical symptoms that appear following the administration of vaccines, which are referred to as "events supposedly attributable to vaccination or immunization" (ESAVI).

This is an article from the book Recent Advances in Immunization, 2nd edition, which covers combination vaccines, vaccine safety, influenza control, adolescent and adult immunization, human papillomavirus vaccines, and approaches to introducing new vaccines.
