Varicella is a highly contagious disease in children that causes fever and an average of 250 to 500 vesicles. Complications of varicella in immunocompromised cases are occasionally life-threatening. A live varicella vaccine (Oka strain) was developed in the early 1970s. This chapter discusses the main points regarding the development, clinical use, and prospects of a live varicella vaccine (OKA Strain). This is a chapter included in Vaccines. Preventing Disease and Protecting Health, a book that celebrates the ways in which vaccines have played a role in improving the health of the world's populations. Keywords: Vaccines; Vaccine Development; Public Health; Immunization; Disease Prevention; Varicella; Live varicella vaccine; Oka strain; V-Oka virus; Herpes zoster; Oka vaccine virus; Zoster virus; S7-01 virus
