Abstract:

Better Health: A Handbook of Behavior Change is a one-of-a-kind manual for communities to reduce disease, disability, and premature death throughout the life cycle. This chapter of the book discusses how respiratory diseases can be prevented, even more easily than cured. Emphysema and all respiratory cancers could all be rare if only society applied the knowledge that it already has to prevent them. Risk factors as indoor and outdoor air pollution and primary prevention as well as secondary prevention (screening of workers) are discussed. This chapter also covers tuberculosis, since it is a chronic disease of the lungs.
