Abstract:

Better Health: A Handbook of Behavior Change is a one-of-a-kind manual for communities to reduce disease, disability, and premature death throughout the life cycle. The first chapter of the book deals with the general principles of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and the human and economic values of prevention. It discusses the three levels of prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary) and the actual ten "true" leading causes of death, all of them important risk factors throughout the world. All the causes can be reduced by behavioral and social changes, so since the causes are well established, preventing programs based upon the role of behavioral and social changes are the next step needed to advance "Health for All".
