Abstract:

The paper describes the approach in Australia adopted to the development of healthy public policy using goals and targets strategy. This approach exemplifies many of the characteristics of health promotion and highlights some of the practical dilemmas involved in converting health promotion principles into policy action. Australia's first health goals and targets were published in 1988. A revised set was published in 1993.
