Facts for Life

The new edition of Facts for Life is now available. This first revision in a decade has updated information on safe motherhood, early childhood development, nutrition, HIV/AIDS and other major causes of childhood illnesses and death.

Facts for Life presents, in simple language, authoritative information about practical, effective and low-cost ways to protect children’s lives and health. It was first published in 1989, and there are now more than 15 million copies in use in 215 languages in 200 countries.

Transforming health systems: gender and rights in reproductive health (World Health Organization, Geneva, 2001 [E], 492 pp. WHO/RHR/01.29)

Produced by WHO, this is a training resource for health trainers to use with health managers, planners, policy-makers and others with responsibilities in reproductive health. It is designed to equip participants with the analytical tools and skills to integrate the promotion of gender equity and reproductive rights into their reproductive health policies and programmes.

The curriculum contains six teaching modules: three foundation modules on gender, social determinants of health and rights; and three application modules on evidence, policy and health systems. It uses case studies, exercises and practical material to deal with a broad spectrum of reproductive health issues from sexual debut and maternal mortality to HIV/AIDS and sexual violence. Participatory methods are used to enable participants to build their confidence and skills.
