Abstract:

The first chapter studies a relatively ‘Western’ country, the Czech Republic during the early- and mid-1990s. Over a four-year period there is clear evidence of class-based political polarization along the ‘classic’ left-right axis. The differential costs and benefits of marketization would appear to have become increasingly apparent to classes within the Czech electorate.
