Abstract:
Three conceptions of meaning of meaning can be distinguished meaning as conceptual role, meaning as communicated thought and meaning as speech-act potential. At one time, these were conceived as competing conceptions, but it is better to see them as potentially compatible theories that are concerned with different aspects or levels of meaning.Keywords: communication; meaning; speech-acts; conceptual role
