Abstract:
This chapter examines six pernicious myths and misconceptions about nationalism, which are prevalent in the new literature. The chapter focuses most attention on groupism, the tendency to talk and write about ethnic groups and nations as if they are real, homogenous, externally bounded entities, and the architectonic illusion, the view that the right grand architecturethe right territorial and institutional frameworkwould conclusively satisfy nationalist demands.Keywords: national conflicts; nations; boundaries; nationhood; nationalism; ethnicity
