Abstract:In 2010, immigration to the Slovak Republic increased only modestly on an annual basis, remaining roughly at the same level as in 2009, when immigration, which had been steadily rising since 2004, was interrupted by the economic crisis. According to national statistics, the inflow of foreign nationals in 2010 was 6 400, compared with 6 300 in the previous year. Despite restored GDP growth ‐ up to 4% from ‐4.7% in 2009 ‐ the labour market situation continued to worsen and the unemployment rate continued to grow in 2010, reaching 14.4%.
