Abstract:

RETIREMENT BEHAVIOUR IN OECD COUNTRIES: IMPACT OF OLD-AGE PENSION SCHEMES AND OTHER SOCIAL TRANSFER PROGRAMMES Retirement incentives contained in old-age pensions and other social transfer programmes explain a sizeable share of past declines and current differences between countries in older males' participation in the labour force.

LABOUR FORCE PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE ON THE ROLE OF POLICY AND OTHER DETERMINANTS IN OECD COUNTRIESTaxation, childcare subsidies, leave arrangements, education levels and overall unemployment all affect the labour force participation of women.

ENHANCING THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF PUBLIC SPENDING: EXPERIENCE IN OECD COUNTRIESThree main areas for action are proposed to curb the growth in public spending while enhancing its cost effectiveness: i) the budget process, ii) public management practices, and iii) the use of market mechanisms to deliver public services.
