Abstract:

The possibility of using activated sludge immobilized in porous ceramic carriers in nitrification of ammonia present in municipal wastewater was investigated. Three different carriers made the stable filling of three column reactors with internal circulation. The properties of the carriers such as internal structure, size of active surface, and participation of hollow spaces in the carrier volume determined the effect of volumetric organic and nitrogenous loading on the loading of nitrogen oxidized. Key words: immobilized activated sludge, porous ceramic carriers, municipal wastewater, nitrification.
