Noise measuring technique and field evaluation based on the effects of vehicles and pavement types

Abstract:

A measuring technique for tire-pavement interaction noise (coast-by noise) that uses a proposed close proximity (CPX) method equipped with surface microphones has been employed to perform pavement noise evaluations on nine different pavement sections as well as two on-site highways. Through field tests, the appropriate noise measuring procedures have been developed and validated for evaluating light and heavy vehicles and various pavement surfaces at varying vehicle speeds. The results show that tire-pavement noise levels vary widely according to the various surface types, vehicle types, and vehicle speeds. In addition, it was found that power-by noise (power-train plus tire-pavement interaction noise) measurements, based on the proposed CPX method, were able to determine the sound power levels used for outdoor sound propagation models.

Une technique pour mesurer le bruit d'interaction pneus-chaussée (bruit de passage), qui utilise une méthode proposée de proximité immédiate (« CPX ») avec des microphones de surface, a été employée lors d'évaluations du bruit sur neuf sections de chaussée ainsi que sur deux autoroutes. Grâce à des essais sur le terrain, des procédures appropriées de mesure du bruit ont été développées et mises à l'épreuve afin d'évaluer des véhicules légers et lourds et diverses surfaces de chaussées à différentes vitesses de véhicules. Les résultats montrent que les niveaux de bruit pneus-chaussée varient grandement selon les divers types de surface, de véhicules et de vitesse des véhicules. De plus, les mesures du bruit total de passage (bruit du moteur plus interaction pneus-chaussée), basées sur la méthode CPX proposée, pourraient s'appliquer à la détermination des niveaux de bruits utilisés pour les modèles de propagation du son à l'extérieur.
