National Council for the Social Studies
Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies is the largest membership organization in the country devoted solely to social studies education. Social Studies is the integrated study of social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence, and NCSS leads and supports the community of social studies educators in promoting a knowledgeable and engaged citizenry. NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for educators in the subjects of civics, history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law related education. Its membership includes K - 16 classroom teachers, curriculum supervisors and specialists, curriculum writers and designers, and teacher educators.
