Establishing an Integrated Ocean Observing System for the United States
The Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) is a developing concept to provide the United States with a comprehensive ocean observing capability for multiple uses. Notable features of the IOOS are its basis in sound science, global and coastal components for the observing system, a
priority on a comprehensive data and information management strategy, and commitment to the process of transitioning new capabilities from research to operations. Planning for the system is being coordinated by the Ocean. US Office (http://www.ocean.us).
