Abstract:

Reverberation time is an important measure of speech intelligibility and acoustical quality in enclosures. The pursuit of a basic understanding of how the reverberation time is related to the physical properties of the enclosure boundaries has involved many acousticians for more than a century. This paper reviews some of these understandings.
