Ouchterlony Ö. Antigen-antibody reactions in gels. IV. Types of reactions in coordinated systems of diffusion. Acta path microbiol scand 1953,32:231–40.

Örjan Ouchterlony became famous all over the scientific world because of the immunodiffusion-in-gel technique that he developed in the 1940s. At one time he was the most cited author in the scientific literature for all categories (at present around 11,000 citations) and it is noteworthy that three of his early and epoch-making publications were published in Acta pathologica et microbiologica scandinavica. As a matter of curiosity it may be mentioned that his first and the most fundamental publication was originally sent to a well-recognized international journal but was rejected based on the referee's opinion that the observations described most likely were either due to an artifact or represented an epiphenomenon of little or no medical interest.
