Abstract:The crisis in governance is a theme that runs through several articles in this issue of foresight. For instance, in their article, 'Governance in the 21st century: power in the global knowledge economy and society', Wolfgang Michalski, Riel Miller and Barrie Stevens consider historical developments in governance, the driving forces likely to transform governance worldwide and the policies that might have the best chance of enhancing governmental capacities in line with the desires and needs of the future. They begin by stating that:
