Finding the right direction: using career development workshops in managing change
Abstract:Discusses the use of career development workshops aimed at helping participants find the right direction for themselves in the midst of rapid and significant organizational change. Suggests that getting career development right is an important dimension of the broader change management process and that individuals who have a strong sense of direction in terms of their own careers are likely to address organizational change generally in a more active and positive manner. Gives a detailed account of the workshop process, in a case study set in the UK National Health Service during the 1990-96 period, when it was undergoing wide-ranging change.
