Abstract:
Challenges the assumption that librarians, to remain useful, must master all the intricacies of new technology. Argues that the demand for esoteric info-tech skills is a phase, not a transformation. Looks back at the integration of other technologies into society, to reinforce this argument. Contends that the future role of the librarian is in using their vision, common sense and research skills to harness the new technology to establish new services. Keywords: Library Management; New Technology; Skills
