Abstract:
Describes experience at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK with regard to the training, development, career and pay structures of secretarial and clerical staff. Discusses action research which was based on an extensive survey of this group of workers' needs and concerns. Among them were library employees. Analyses the results of the exercise and lists the ways in which secretarial and clerical staff can be assisted in developing their jobs and careers in partnership with both the institutional employer and local line management.Keywords: Career Development; Employees; Librarians; On-The-Job Training
