Abstract:
The factors and criteria leading to the choice of the Dewey Decimal Classification for the BN are outlined. The applications of the classification are discussed within the areas of indexing, shelflisting and signage and special adaptations to local requirements and usages are described. The use of the classification within statistics and computer systems for the library is also indicated. Future developments in the use of the Dewey Decimal Classification, including full edition French language translations, are also outlined.Keywords: Classification; France; Indexes; Libraries
