Abstract:

Al alloy coatings (Al-Mg binary) were prepared by cold gas dynamic spray and characteristics of the porous Al alloy coatings were examined after post-annealing. The coatings of composites (Al-Mg and Al-AlMg) were annealed in a nitrogen atmosphere for four hours. Post-annealing caused Mg in the coatings to diffuse into the Al matrix by eutectic reaction between Al and Mg. For Al/AlMg multicoatings, porous layers in the coatings were formed by post-annealing (diffusion of Mg into the Al matrix). Therefore, processing parameters such as particles and coating method can be used for controlling the size and distribution of pores in cold sprayed coatings.
