Abstract:

In order to prepare Ce/Al2O3 composite coating on oxide film quickly, a new process of ac deposition method in a solution containing H2O2 and CeCl3 was introduced. Scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, electron probe microanalyser, X-ray diffractometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were adopted to analyse the coating. The results showed that the Ce/Al2O3 composite coating was easy to prepare when the Al2O3 film thickness was over 6·8 ?m. The Ce sediment was amorphous of cerium (III and IV) hydroxide and located into the pores near the surface of Al2O3 films layer. The forming mechanism of the composite coating was discussed accordingly.
