Abstract:
Tensile-test data for powder-forged samples of Fe–0·2C are presented and compared with the measured NDT parameters of density, sonic velocity, and ultrasonic velocity. Both density and sonic velocity predict yield and ultimate tensile strengths fairly well. Sonic and ultrasonic velocities distinguish between a powder forging and a sintered sample of similar density. Direct observations of failure in powder-forged pure iron are also described. Possible deformation and failure mechanisms are discussed.Document Type: Research Article
