Abstract:
Sinter hardening, a recently developed technique, improves the properties by allowing hardening inside the sintering furnace. This reduces the cost of operation and makes powder metallurgy more competitive. The present research has tried to evaluate the effects of compaction pressure and tempering on various properties of sinter hardened Ancorsteel 4300?0·6Gr. Properties that are paid interest are densification response, pore morphology, microstructure evolution, mechanical property response, tribological response and machinability response. Compaction pressure improves the cooling rate within sample, resulting in varying amounts of martensite with increasing compaction pressure. Tempering improves property response of sinter hardened samples significantly.
