Abstract:

Squeeze cast AJ62 magnesium alloy exhibits a fine grained microstructure in the thin skin region and a coarse grained microstructure in the central region. Potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy experiments have been performed to investigate the corrosion resistances of the AJ62 alloys in a salt solution and engine coolant. Comparison of the electrochemical behaviour in the fine and coarse grained AJ62 alloys indicates that the AJ62 alloy with fine microstructure presents better corrosion resistance.
