Abstract:
Squeeze cast AJ62 magnesium alloy exhibits a fine grained microstructure in the thin skin region and a coarse grained microstructure in the central region. Potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy experiments have been performed to investigate the corrosion resistances of the AJ62 alloys in a salt solution and engine coolant. Comparison of the electrochemical behaviour in the fine and coarse grained AJ62 alloys indicates that the AJ62 alloy with fine microstructure presents better corrosion resistance. Keywords: COOLANT; SALT SOLUTION; ELECTROCHEMISTRY; MAGNESIUM ALLOYS; CORROSION; GRAIN SIZE
