Abstract:

In connection with recently published work on the ternary system Ni–Al–Ta two binary alloys were produced for investigation. A Ni–31 at.-%Al alloy was prepared in order to assess the accuracy of the microprobe analysis technique by analysing an alloy heat treated to produce a single phase structure and comparing this with conventional chemical analysis. This alloy was used to determine the boundaries of the ?? + ? phase region between 1273 and 1573 K. A Ni–20 at.-%Ta alloy was made in order to clarify the phase equilibria in the Ni rich region of this system.
