Abstract:

A scanning optical microscope is described which can give superior resolution to that of the conventional optical instrument. The image is obtained as an electrical signal which may be processed in any desired way before being displayed on a television screen. Micrographs are obtained for two standard metallurgical specimens and comparisons with conventional optical microscopes are made.
