Abstract:This article focuses on Building Periods 0 and I, the periods that represent the tenth and ninth century BCE milieu, at Samaria. A realistic portrayal of the full extent and economic significance of Building Period 0 is presented, and a raison d'être for the location of the Omride capital during Building Period I is proffered. It will be shown that Building Period I belongs to the Omride dynasty, while Building Period II must be relegated to the post-Omride era. Thus, Building Period I is liberated from the tangled web caused by the traditional linking of Building Periods I and II, and the way is paved for defining and scrutinizing each as an independent and chronologically separate period.
