Abstract:

Homogeneity in the metallurgical characteristics and mechanical properties of horizontal continuous cast products is vital for industrial application. In the present work, the microstructure and mechanical properties of a horizontal continuous cast two phase brass pipe have been studied. Tensile behaviour, impact strength and hardness variations were studied and the phase composition, porosity and nature of precipitates examined. Distinct differences in properties were observed between the upper and lower parts of the pipe, which are explained in terms of the morphology and size of the ? phase in the microstructure.
