Abstract:
The article presents a sozological map of Poland drawn up on a scale of 1 : 50 000, as a complex cartographic presentation of the forms of protection and degradation of the natural environment. We have pointed to the necessity of observing and registering changes taking place in the natural environment, under the influence of various processes, including human activity, in order to maintain the ecological balance of natural systems. We have set forward the basic concepts concerning sozology, outlined its subject matter and the scope of research, as a complex science, and also provided a definition of a sozological map. Furthermore, we have set out the history of work connected with the elaboration of thematic maps, from the analogue to the digital version. Source materials used in the elaboration of the map have been indicated, and its structure and topical scope have been described. Keywords: SOZOLOGICAL MAP; THEMATIC CARTOGRAPHY; GIS
