Abstract:The soil survey of the Republic of Ireland is conducted on a county basis, using the currently-available 1:10,560 scale map series for field work. Publication scale is 1:126,720. Problems of the cartographic design and preparation of a multi-colour thematic map are examined, and the use of line screens (adapted from the methods of the Netherlands Soil Survey) are explained in detail. Control of the printed colour density, using a densitometer, was also investigated.
