Abstract:
Cordierite powders were synthesised with the use of MgO coming from two different mineral sources of talc and magnesite. The cordierite composition containing magnesite shows higher shrinkage and lower porosity when fired between 850 and 1350°C than the one containing talc. With the use of magnesite as MgO source, cordierite forms at a lower temperature than for talc and is stabilised at higher heating temperature. The enough porosity and surface area of product prepared by addition of precalcined cordierite to the raw materials. Keywords: POROUS CORDIERITE BODY; CATALYTIC CONVERTER
