Abstract:

The mechanism of formation of alpha-halo thioketones in reactions of haloacetones with H2S in the presence of HCl was studied by quantum-chemical methods. The cause of failure in attempted preparation of iodo thioketone by this procedure was elucidated. The stereoelectronic structure and capability for 1,3-proto- tropic rearrangements of alpha-halothioacetones were studied.
