1-(p-Nitrophenylsulfonyl)buta-1,3-diene reacts with arenediazonium chlorides in aqueous acetone in the presence of catalytic amounts of CuCl_2ยท2H_2O to form 1-(p-nitrophenylsulfonyl)-4-aryl-3-chloro-1-bu- tenes. In the presence of SO_2, 1-(p-nitrophenylsulfonyl)buta-1,3-diene does not react with arenediazonium chlorides.
