abstract = "Labour's current malaise is as much intellectual as it is political. The party needs to develop a concerted strategy which is premised both upon a reconnection with the historic lineages of social democracy and social liberalism, and a rigorously realist approach to the difficult political
circumstances it faces. Some of the principal elements of such a strategy include the need to challenge some of the associations that linger from its time in government; and the importance of re-inserting the party into some of the leading political and policy debates of the current period.
These include major questions of political economy, the future of the United Kingdom, and the crisis of faith in politics itself.",
