Abstract:

This paper investigates the causality between urban water consumption and regional economic growth in Taejeon, Korea by using the cointegration and error-correction models. It employs annual data covering the period 1973-2001. The overall results support the existence of unidirectional causality running from regional economic growth to urban water consumption without any feedback effects. Thus, water conservation policies can be initiated without deteriorating economic side effects.
