Abstract:
An analytical theory of the rotation of a synchronous satellite is developed for the application to the rotation of the Galilean satellites. The theory is developed in the framework of Hamiltonian mechanics, using Andoyer variables. Special attention is given to the frequencies of libration as functions of the moments of inertia of the satellite. Keywords: Andoyer's variable; Galiean satellites; rotation of celestial bodies; synchronous satellites
