Abstract:
Magnetic resonance angiography showed that blood flow in the aortic arch during protodiastole is separated into the opposite flows, which are temporarily arrested at the certain sites creating the flat front of the flow. The protodiastolic antegrade peak acceleration 6-fold surpasses the systolic one. Due to adhesion, the high gradient pressure forces can damage the vascular wall. Keywords: magnetic resonance angiography; atherosclerosis; protodiastole; flat flow; shear stress
