Effects of thickness and substrate on the mechanical properties of hard coatings

Abstract:
Nanoindentation technique was employed to characterize the mechanical properties of TiN coatings deposited on high-speed steel and stainless steel substrates. Effects of thickness and substrate on-the mechanical properties were investigated. The results show that TiN coatings exhibit different mechanical properties corresponding to the variation in thickness and substrate.Keywords: Nanoindentation; TiN coatings; thickness; substrate properties; mechanical properties
