Abstract:

An analytical solution is presented for analysing the torsional deformation of complicated core wall structures subjected to applied torque. The method adopted in this paper, which is an iterative procedure incorporating the wall element torsional stiffness, is found to be effective. The efficiency and versatility of the discrete method are illustrated by application of the technique to the analysis of complex wall systems. The method is compared with experimental data, Bredt’s theory, finite element analysis, and the wide column frame analogy. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
