Abstract:
One component of standard dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), a treatment that combines cognitive-behavioural and acceptance-based techniques, is intersession telephone skills-coaching. We propose that a DBT-based telephone skill-coaching model can be a useful adjunct to the treatment of eating disorders. The current paper describes the standard telephone skill-coaching model, the adaptations necessary for its use with eating disorder clients and a protocol that may be used with this population. A clinical vignette illustrates the principles described in the protocol.
