A 4-year follow-up on bulimia nervosa

Abstract:
ObjectiveInvestigation of course and outcome of bulimia nervosa 2.46.1 years after completing a short-term integrated group psychotherapy, including research into possible predicting factors.MethodFifty-nine women with the diagnosis bulimia nervosa or sub-threshold bulimia nervosa were invited to participate in a follow-up interview.ResultsAt follow-up, 58 per cent had a good outcome, 14 per cent met full criteria for bulimia nervosa and 28 per cent met the criteria for eating disorder not otherwise specified. Twenty-one per cent of the patients had a good outcome after the first step of the treatment programme. Patients who quickly reduced the number of binges had the best outcome.
