RP-HPLC determination of cinnamic acid in styrax micropills

To establish a new RP-HPLC method for determination of cinnamic acid in styrax micropills,which is efficient on cardiovascular diseases,taking phenolphthalein as internal standard.Method:The determination by RP-HPLC was carried out using ZORBAX SB-C18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm,5 μm) at room temperature,with mobile phase of methanol-water-glacial acetic acid (50:50:0.5) at a flow rate of 1.5 mL·min-1 and the detection wavelength of 242 nm.Results:Excellent linear correlation was established within the range of 6.4-54.4 μg·mL-1,and r=0.9999;The recovery of high concentration(120%)was 99.3%,RSD was 1.5%,middle concentration(100%) was 99.2%,RSD was 1.8%,low concentration (80%)was 101.0%,RSD was 0.9%.Conclusion:The method can be applied in quantitive determination of preparations contained styrax with accuracy and reliability.
