Abstract:
Pain is a common reason that people seek medical attention, but pain is also difficult to assess, given the uniqueness of pain from person to person and the subjective nature of assessment. Not surprisingly, many hospitals struggle with pain management. Recent Joint Commission statistics show that 23% of hospitals surveyed during the first half of 2009 did not fully comply with Standard PC.01.02.07, which requires hospitals to assess and manage patients' pain. This article provides five practical how-to strategies to help your organization better comply with this standard.Document Type: Research article
