Abstract:

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT, also known as CAT) are common imaging technologies that many providers are using in a new way, by combining the two, especially during cancer treatments. A combined PET/CT scan can give health care providers a picture of the metabolic activities of cancers within the body, while simultaneously producing an image of the patient's anatomy. Like any technology, especially those involving exposure to radiation, the effectiveness and safety of this technology depends on providers following the correct procedures and taking appropriate precautions.
