This article announces several revisions to Joint Commission ambulatory care requirements that require an ambulatory surgical center (ASC) to have emergency equipment appropriate for its patient population as well as the types of procedures performed there. The Joint Commission made
the changes as a result of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services final rule “Regulatory Provisions to Promote Program Efficiency, Transparency, and Burden Reduction,” issued in May 2012.
