CMS to Measure Safe Surgery Checklist Use
Hospitals and Surgery Centers to Report on Structural Measure
Abstract:This article announces that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is implementing a new quality reporting program for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and hospitals with a structural measure on the use of a safe surgery checklist. ASCs and hospitals will be expected to report annually whether or not staff used a safe surgery checklist during the prior year; those that do not report an annual yes or no response regarding use of a surgical checklist may be subject to a reduction in their annual payment update.
