Abstract:

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated their Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for hospitals and critical access hospitals to require equal visitation rights for all patients. As an organization with deeming authority for hospitals and critical access hospitals, this article explains how The Joint Commission will align its standards to the new CMS requirements.
